Open House August 22nd

Our highly anticipated 6th Annual Open House was held Saturday August 22nd. Doors opened at 11 AM and it ended at 4 PM. There were sales and specials on everything in the store. As always the hot dogs and hamburgers from Big Dog’s were a big favorite and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the exceptional weather.  We saw many familiar faces and made new friends.  We have decided to continue our sales until the end of August for those who were unable to attend.

A HUGE thank you to all who attended and those who helped make this a very memorable day!  We couldn’t have done it without you.  A truly successful business cannot sustain itself without a loyal customer base and we value ours.

For photos of past Open Houses check out our Facebook.

Today we share with you Adam’s latest video production from his own YouTube Channel. For the weekend of July 3-5th he was in Roanoke, VA riding behind the newly restored Norfolk & Western Class J Northern #611. There were two different trips you could take and Adam rode both the eastbound Powhatan Arrow from Roanoke to Lynchburg  and the westbound Pelican from Roanoke to Radford . On the days he did not ride it he visited the O. Winston Link Museum located inside of the former N&W Roanoke Station and the Virginia Museum of Transportation home of the J, the A and for the next 5 years the last Y6a. Besides the museums, Roanoke is a true railroad town as it is home to the former N&W office building and Hotel Roanoke along with the Shaffers Crossing Engine Terminal and Roanoke Shops which are still used by Norfolk Southern today.

For more information on the 611, Roanoke, along with local railroad sites and locomotives check out these websites below! The 611 may be done for the summer but 765 is getting ready to go!

Weaver Models

As many of you know Weaver Models will be closing its doors at the end of June. We at Stockyard Express LLC are deeply saddened to hear that Weaver Models is shutting down. Over the years  we have enjoyed a long and successful business venture and friendship with all those at Weaver. We wish them all the very best of luck in their future endeavors!

The following is the official announcement from Weaver Models

Weaver Models is announcing the closing of its manufacturing business at the end of June after 50 years. Proud to have been manufacturing in the USA.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our dealers, customers, and the many great friends I’ve made throughout the years for making our business a success.

I would also like to thank our dedicated employees, some of whom have been with me for more than 20 years, also for making our business a success.

I have been affiliated with Weaver Models since 1970, when it was better known as Quality Craft Models. I acquired Weaver Models in 1994.

We will be having a sale at our place of business, selling various items including memorabilia on a cash and carry basis starting June 29th.

Now in stock at Stockyard Express it is the 30-1650-1 Southern Pacific  4-8-8-2 Imperial Cab Forward Specialty Freight Set. The set includes locomotive number 4293, four boxcars, and a bay window caboose. If you are looking to expand your roster with an impressive looking articulated that can go around an O-31 diameter curve with ease, look no further than the SP Cab Forward!

Cab Forwards were introduced on the Southern Pacific as early as 1910. The route over the Sierra Nevada involved 39 tunnels, 40 miles of snow sheds and 2.5% grades on either end. Crews would suffer near suffocation while traversing this route. With the perfected diesel locomotive decades away the only solution was to build a steam locomotive backwards. Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works these engines were built back to front and burned oil in their fireboxes. 4293 is of the AC-12 class which was the 17th and final version of the cab forward built for the Southern Pacific. Engine 4294 is only cab forward to survive into preservation and is housed at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento.

Union Pacific FEFs, Chessie T1s, and Niagaras

New steam locomotives are in the building! We have the MTH Premier Line Union Pacific FEF Northerns in sets or individually, the Chessie System Steam Special Set behind former Reading T1 #2101, and of course we have a couple of New York Central Niagara Express Reefer Sets still available. If you are looking to build up your roster of Premier locomotives and cars the best way to do it is with a Premier Set.

All locomotives are equipped with Proto-Sound 3.0 along with the many other top of the line features found in the MTH Premier Line. Sale prices are shown in RED.

Lets start with the Union Pacific FEFs. Built by ALCO for passenger and fast freight service between 1937-44 the FEFs could and did all. Number 844 has the distinction of being the only steam locomotive in North America to never be retired from active service. We have three versions of these fine locomotives for sale and be sure to check our inventory for our extensive selection of other Union Pacific passenger cars and rolling stock.

Leviathan is back on track this weekend!

Leviathan is back on track this weekend!

Fun Times With Leviathan and an Encore UPDATE

History was made at the Lorain & West Virginia with the steam locomotive number 63, Leviathan, and the newly reconstructed Lincoln Funeral Car known as the United States. Four trips left the station each day behind Leviathan and before they left they were treated to our 16 x 12 foot three track display of operating O-Gauge trains. We had quite an enjoyable time introducing budding and seasoned railfans to the magic that is O-Gauge model railroading. In fact, during the event we passed out over 150 MTH Ready-to-Run catalogs and Premier and RailKing catalogs. Premier Line models of Leviathan and Nickel Plate Road USRA 0-6-0 #365 sister locomotive to #384 were the undisputed stars of our layout.

The newly reconstructed Lincoln Funeral Car, also known as the United States, was on static display for the entire event. For a $5 donation you could walk through the beautifully rebuilt car. Every detail was painstakingly researched and the results have to be seen to believe.

Adam took part in the Night Photo Shoot with Leviathan which featured a troop of Civil War reenactors. Adam plans on offering prints of his photos for purchase as soon as he has time to sort through them all!

You might think that after three days of running O-Gauge trains inside of an old New York Central Freight House would be enough fun, but we’re gearing ourselves up for another two days. That’s right Leivathan will be running trips again at the Lorain & West Virginia next weekend May 30th and 31st! More details will be available at within the next few days and we will post more information as soon as possible.

Adults $25

Seniors $20

Kids 12 and under $5

Veterans (with proof of service) $6

Lincoln Funeral Car Admission $5

Parking is free!
