Stockyard Express is pleased to announce a custom run of MTH Premier New York Central stock cars commemorating the heyday of the Cleveland Union Stockyards:
Comprising more than 60 acres of pens, troughs, brick walkways, and bidding areas, Cleveland Union Stockyards was the 7th largest in the country in the 1920s. Livestock was shipped to such terminal yards and sold by commission merchants to local and out-of-state buyers. The stockyards featured a hotel and bar for farmers who accompanied their livestock to market. In 1923 Cleveland handled 1.3 million hogs, 125,000 cattle, 145,000 calves, and 308,000 sheep and lambs raised in Ohio and the Midwest, 90% of which were dressed and consumed locally. Though Cleveland Union Stockyards activity was only a fraction of that which took place in Chicago, Cleveland could ship U.S.-inspected meat to the East Coast in 48 hours.

2333340 – New York Central LEGACY E8 AA Last set !!! Still sealed & in the original shipper !! – $1079.99
The E8 and E9 were the face of passenger trains for decades. Solid and reliable, these E’s even found their way into freight service on many roads. Some of the best-known railroad liveries graced these models and never looked better. But beyond lightning stripes and warbonnets, the E’s wore plenty of more unique yet equally interesting paint schemes as well. This latest release celebrates just a few of those! Think Southern or Southern Pacific and immediately green and Daylight colors come to mind. But the Southern’s “tuxedo” black and white paint was no slouch. And Espee’s gray and scarlet graced these units for far more years than orange and red. Amtrak’s red-nosed E’s ushered in a new look as passenger service was re-imagined in the 1970s. New York Central’s early paint schemes were striking – but costly. They experimented with a splash of “Century Green” paint on a pair of E8s (and 1 E7B) in 1960 before deciding upon dark gray. Ultimately the Central felt the green was more suited for boxcars – but we think it looks just fine on the E’s! Each pair of locomotives includes two powered units with smoke, lights and sound in the lead unit. Road specific details include pilots, Mars lights and rooftop details. Sure, the original paint schemes are fantastic and we can’t wait to do more of them – but don’t miss your chance to add something a little different to your engine house. The long awaited Buick Motor Division & Cleveland Union Terminal SW1200 diesels, along with the Westinghouse waffle box cars have just arrived from MTH. We will begin shipping these items out after Thanksgiving weekend due to Clyde rehabbing a knee replacement and not getting around quite like he usually does. He thanks you for your support and patience during this recovery period. We are still planning on being back up & running strong starting December 1, 2023.
